Acoustic Design for Gymnasium

The biggest characteristic of stadiums is their large volume, which results in excessively long reverberation times in the lobby, making the sound blurry and causing a muddy listening experience for the audience, affecting the performance. For athletes, the poor acoustics in the stadium can significantly impact their performance. For example, in basketball games, excessively long reverberation times and echoes can make the footsteps and impacts of athletes dribbling the ball more intense, even turning into a loud cacophony.
A well-designed sports hall acoustic system balances reverberation control, speech clarity, and spatial atmosphere.
Instead of excessive absorption, a combination of sound absorption and diffusion is used to achieve optimal acoustic comfort for both athletes and spectators.
Acoustic design standards

Reverberation Time (RT60)
The optimal reverberation time depends on the function of the space:
Multi-purpose sports halls: 1.5 – 2.5 seconds
Speech-oriented spaces (events / assemblies): 1.2 – 1.8 seconds
Large arenas: around 2.0 seconds
Excessive reverberation leads to poor speech intelligibility, while insufficient reverberation reduces spatial energy and audience experience.
Speech Intelligibility
Clear communication is essential, especially for announcements and events:
Target STI ≥ 0.50 (Good)
Premium projects: STI ≥ 0.60
And to ensure acoustic comfort:
Recommended level: NC-35 to NC-45

Acoustic Solutions by Area-Ceiling Systems
High ceilings significantly increase reverberation.
It is generally recommended to install Aluminum suspended acoustic clouds and Fiberglass acoustic panels
Function:By installing an acoustic baffle in the ceiling, efficient absorption of mid and high frequencies and reduction of overall RT60 can be achieved.
Among them, Aluminum suspended acoustic clouds are the most recommended for installation in stadiums because of their aluminum frame structure, which makes them safer and more stable in stadiums where the ceiling is high off the ground.

Acoustic Solutions by Area-Wall Systems
Solutions:
It is generally recommended to install Fabric wrapped acoustic panels,PET Acoustic Panel,Perforated wooden panels,Wooden Grooved Acoustic Panel
Key Treatment Areas:,Rear walls behind seating: prevent sound reflections back to the court,Side walls of the playing field: control early reflections,Entrance and lobby areas: reduce ambient noise levels

Products Description

3.Environmental Performance:Low VOC emissions,Formaldehyde-free options available,Compliance with:RoHS,REACH
4.Durability:Impact-resistant (important for sports environments)
5.Moisture-resistant
6.Dimensionally stable
7.Installation System:Modular and easy installation,Compatible with steel and concrete structures,Accessible and maintainable
Design Philosophy

Our acoustic design solutions are centered on performance, aesthetics, and practicality.
It's not simply about sound absorption, but about combining sound absorption with enhanced acoustic effects to create a comfortable acoustic environment suitable for sporting and public events.
While meeting international acoustic standards, we optimize project cost-effectiveness based on the client's budget, providing recommendations for acoustic product selection. We typically offer economical solutions and high-performance/gymnasium-grade options. For example, considering cost, we generally recommend economical solutions: PET acoustic panels/Fabric-wrapped acoustic panels installed on parts of the walls; and Fiberglass acoustic ceilings suspended from the ceiling. For larger budgets, we recommend high-performance/gymnasium-grade solutions: Fabric-wrapped acoustic panels/Wooden acoustic panels covering the entire wall, and Aluminum-suspended acoustic clouds covering the entire ceiling. This achieves high acoustic performance and the aesthetic appeal of a high-end gymnasium.
